MBA Offers Updated SSN Verification Manual and BSA/CTR Manual Offerings

This 26th annual edition includes 2011 updates to the SSN data base, but starting June 2011, the Social Security Administration will begin to assign numbers at random, precluding the ability of bankers to determine from the number the approximate age and geographic origins of the person providing the SSN.

Final Rule: FinCEN Transfer and Reorganization of the Bank Secrecy Act Regulations

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network recently published a final rule moving the Bank Secrecy Act regulations to a new chapter, Chapter X, in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) effective March 1, 2011. This means that all training, publications and manuals referencing the old numbering system will have to be changed by then to reflect the new system. NABS/PPL has already begun this process with our products (see “’X’ Marks the Spot” below) and will soon be in touch with your association as to how this will impact the BSA training you provide your members utilizing our services.
